14 Ways To Discover Art with a 14 Month Old

Toddlers are so much fun! They're really becoming their own person, with mini attitudes and all the curiosity and wonder in the world!

It can be a bit of a trial getting used to a mini tornado in your house if your child was a quiet baby-but honestly it's fun!

There are so many different ways to play with and engage your tot!

In the last few weeks I've had readers and family ask me about entertaining their 14month old babies, (the holidays can be hard if you're used to filling your time with playgroup activities!) so I thought I'd compose a few posts about things you can do.

The mums I've been speaking to have had a specific interest in introducing art to their still mouthing babes, so today that's what I'm focusing on.

To do ALL of the activities listed below here's a list of what you would need:

Paper
Water
Food dye

Let the fun begin!

1. Enjoy a nice warm shower and after (or during if you're desperate!) give your toddler a paintbrush and let them "paint" shapes through the steam. For a little something extra give them a small pot of water to paint with too.

2. Harness your toddler's inner desire to DESTROY and introduce them to the art of destruction!

3. Explore colours with Messy Monster's process driven, taste-safe ice painting.

 4. Sit them inside the box and let them draw in it with crayons or textas or even paint it from the inside...containing the mess!

5. Grab a roll of easel paper and some paint: roll the paper accross the ground. Place small blobs of paint across and crawl through! We tend to do this one naked with a paddling pool full of warm soapy water nearby for easy clean up!

9. Put stickers on a box or in it!

11. Grab your chalk, head outside and enjoy drawing together on the driveway. This is a great one for days when they're bouncing off the walls-you can't bounce off the walls if there are no walls!

12. Collect your paintbrush and cardboard box and try this simple activity from I Can Teach My Child.

14. Mirror + paint: paint mirror, wipe off or print with paper and do again and again.
