DUPLO® is such an amazingly versatile manipulative-it can be used for simple construction, art, sensory play and so much more! I love it too as whilst it's designed for smaller children, big kids and even adults still enjoy it too!
I designed this activity for Squiggles (3years) but it still maintained Bubbles' (5years) interest aswell.
Just like our Rainbow Bears activity, this activity was designed to reinforce the concept of colour. However, this activity required even less prep than the Rainbow Bears Sorting Activity, which was necessary as I've been so unwell this week I wound up in hospital!
To begin with, I had the girls bring their beach buckets inside and fill them up with DUPLO® of the corresponding colour. Squiggles' bucket is the blue one and I was quite pleased that we have blue DUPLO® in various shades. This was an excellent challenge for her, to find all different types of blue.
We then filled our paddling pool up and the girls dumped their DUPLO® into the pool. I handed the girls a child-sized fishing net each and challenged them to sort the DUPLO® into the 'correct' buckets.
Unexpectedly, the girls continued to sort the DUPLO®, dump it back in the water, and sort it again for our entire time outside!
Now for the fun part…

Please always supervise your infant/child at play. Please stay within arms reach and never leave infants/children unattended. You know you're infant/child best, use your own judgement-considering your infant/child's temperament, habits, behaviour and development before you play with a new play medium.
