Hi all! It's Ashlee from Loving Naturally back again. Welcome to
another Playful Baby post! This month we are touching on the
topic of books. Reading to children is an amazing way to expand their
vocabulary and understanding of the world around them.
If you're
anything like me you dreamed of having this beautifully decorated reading
corner for your little munchkins, with plush pillows and soft blankets
to snuggle under while you go on a magical journey into another world. I
tried this with Miss L with little success as Miss L didn't find her
love of books until she started school, and now with Little A, it's a
whole other story. She is OBSESSED with animal books. If she sees a
book and there is an animal on it, IT IS NOW HERS! To try and pry these books
from her tiny hands starts World War III.
Alot of our
reading is done at bedtime, with us all loaded into Miss L's bed to do
her reader and library book for school. However during the day...Little A
takes over. We have a wide selection of books from Dr Seuss, My Little Pony, Disney Princesses and more BUT all we read is the "My First Animals" over and over and OVER AGAIN. Little A loves all the animals in
this book and then finding them in our everyday adventures. As much as I
loathe reading this book over and over again Little A gets so much out
of it, we have expanded our vocabulary rapidly, as she recognises the differences between each animal in the real
world.
With cows being Little A's favourite at the moment
there is a lot of "COW?" "Cow?" "Mummy cow?" when cooking dinner,
sitting on the toilet or when you finally get that shower to wash your
hair and you turn to face the shower door only to see your child's face
squished on it so hard while they scream "COW!" and bashing their book into
the door repeatedly until you abort your hair wash, wrap your towel
around yourself and sit on the floor with them for the 2minutes it takes
for them to show you all the animals they like.
Reading
with children is amazing and when you get that quiet moment peeking through their bedroom to see either the older child cuddling their
younger sibling reading to them or the younger sibling reading quietly
to themselves or their teddies, you see how even though you may not have
this perfect reading area or read a huge variety of books they understand
the calm and joy that comes from books and the world they can
unlock.
This month we are giving away a Grimm's Peg Doll in Small Cave.
All you have to do is share how your baby reads or plays with books on

Please always supervise your
infant/child at play. Please stay within arms reach and never leave
infants/children unattended. You know you're infant/child best, use
your own judgement-considering your infant/child's temperament, habits,
behaviour and development before you play with a new play medium.
