Frozen Ice Play

Following along with Nurture Store's Simple play:: complex learning series, I thought I'd share with you how the ice play idea I shared with you during last year's series has evolved as Bubbles' has grown from a toddler to a preschooler.

This activity is so simple and is no harder to set up or less entertaining now that Bubbles is older. All you need is a full and frozen ice cube tray with a silicone back that can be pushed, some small toys and a shallow dish to contain the play.

I simply give the girls their ice trays and toys and allow them to explore them in the way they want to. Bubbles' loves creating ice castles and playing with her Frozen figurines, as the ice melts her characters set out on missions to save one another.
Squiggles' tends to play the way Bubbles' did at her age: 'popping' all the 'buttons' on the back of the ice cube tray, transferring the cubes to the container and then putting the ice back in the tray and repeating the process all over again. Although she also imitates her sister's play and makes her people cry out for help and splash in the melted ice.

What's your favourite ice play idea?
