Outdoor Playdough-A Calming Activity

You don't always have to create a brand new activity to keep your kids entertained and yourself sane. Sometimes it's as simple as finding a new way to play with an activity you already have.

Not too long ago the girls were having a bit of a crazy day. It was just one of those days where they seemed to be arguing about everything and were driving me a little batty. Rather than get agro and turn into 'Monster Mummy' I dragged our table outside and grabbed the Twilight Sparkle Playdough tray.

I put the pony toys away and exchanged them for some fresh herbs from our garden. Then I sent the girls outside.

Bubbles set to work creating a magnificent feather creature whilst Squiggles chose to explore the herbs first. I brought out a pair of scissors after Squiggles requested something to cut the rosemary and she then spent a massive amount of time attempting to cut the herbs and her playdough.

Having finished her feather creation, Bubbles then set out making some beautiful 'trees' and 'flowers.'

I don't know whether it was the change of scene, the fresh air, the herbs, the playdough or a combination of them all but our crazy household turned into one of calm. We had a peaceful hour of moulding, cutting, creating and talking before lunch.

Please always supervise your infant/child at play.  Please stay within arms reach and never leave infants/children unattended.  You know you're infant/child best, use your own judgement-considering your infant/child's temperament, habits, behaviour and development before you play with a new play medium.
