Australia Day Beach Pool

In 2014 I shared with you two Australia Day inspired swimming pools. Today I'm sharing with you another.

While we were eating lunch during the week, I introduced the idea of making an Australia Day themed pool with Squiggles and Bubbles. They were immediately enthusiastic and we spent the rest of lunch discussing what an "Australia Day" pool might look like. Squiggles suggested a beach, and Bubbles suggested adding Australian animals "like wallabies!"

After lunch, we went outside and the girls set to creating their "Australia Day" swimming pool. They decided that our sandpit could be the beach and the pool could be the ocean.

We pulled out their box of Australian animals and there was a bit of discussion between Bubbles and Squiggles about which animals were land animals and which ones were water animals.

Squiggles took charge of adding shells and rocks to the "ocean'. Whilst Bubbles created some sandcastles and then carefully decorated them with animals. "It's a kangaroo palace!"

JB had lots of fun splashing in the water and investigating all the toys and natural items-much to Squiggles despair!

And Squiggles decided to do abit of experimenting-this time to Bubbles' despair! "Look Mummy! The sand is melting!" Is it really melting? Where is the water going? What do you think happens to sand when it gets wet? The discussion between Bubbles and Squiggles was fabulous as they "melted" all their sandcastles. I can see this would be a great experiment to expand upon soon! It may not have been the topic I thought we'd be exploring but no less valid!
