Create Your Own Rockpool {Baby Sensory Play}

Hello everyone! Ashlee from Loving Naturally here, once again, to touch on the topic of sensory play. As expensive as it sounds it's so simple, easy and your most likely doing it right now and can add a few more things to your babies play, from what you have around the house.

For us, sensory play is a massive part of little A's and Miss L's learning and playing. Here in Australia, we are just enjoying the last couple of warm weeks after summer, so we are outside a lot! Being the kind of person that burns extremely easily we can't go galavanting about all day so to be able to enjoy the amazing outdoors we opt for a sun protected deck.

Our newest addition to this area is our play kitchen. Here the girls are able to play in the water, making mud creations and getting completely covered head to toe. As water is present I'm always watching but the girls have free play to explore their environment. If they want to put dirt or sand into their sink they can, if they want to paint their blackboard with a paint brush and water they can (an amazing idea from Squiggles and Bubbles). It keeps BOTH girls happy for ages!

Another of our favourite things to play with is things from down the beach. Living within walking distance from the beach gives us the amazing access to an array of textures, smells and things to see. Taking the girls down for an afternoon once it cools is an amazing way to get them interacting with the world around them ( as well as locking in an earlier bed time for tuckered out little people).

Heading to the rock pools the girls are able to safely explore and discover. Feeling the sand between their toes, the textures of the rocks, shells and seaweed. As well as with spotting the odd crab here and there.

Want to create your own little rock pool right in your home?
First decide what size container you'd like.
Add some rocks around the edges to create your rock pool.
Then add some eye-catching textures: fake seaweed, shells from the shops(if you have a baby that likes to put everything in their mouth be mindful of the size of objects you're adding).
If you have some toy sea animals they are always an added bonus.
TA DAH! You have created and rock pool sensory wonderland for you little one to explore for hours!

I would love to see what you have created and by sharing what you have made you could go into the draw to win an amazing Grimms toy for your family. Just click the picture below to see how you can enter!

Please always supervise your infant/child at play.  Please stay within arms reach and never leave infants/children unattended.  You know you're infant/child best, use your own judgement-considering your infant/child's temperament, habits, behaviour and development before you play with a new play medium.
