At times though they need a little encouragement and inspiration. Ashlee and I both found this when we took our tribes camping over Easter.
We did many things while we were camping:
- We went hiking and saw an amazing waterfall.
- We went walking and explored our surroundings.
- We had an Easter Egg hunt-ofcourse.
- The kids played in their tent with a few special toys from home.
- The kids coloured in.
- We made music by turning tree trunks into drums.
- The kids raced and had jumping competitions.
- They played in dirt and the grass.
- Unfortunately the only downside to our campsite was there were no trees suitable for climbing so there was no tree climbing on this occasion.
Squiggles and Miss L worked together to run around the campsite looking for appropriate materials and built some beautiful houses.
It just so happened that I had a little jar of fairy dust in the car so as the girls worked on their second fairy house I sneakily threw a little glitter over their first house. Their reactions were priceless! So much excitement over a little bit of glitter!
And the best bit? The next morning the breeze had blown the glitter so it looked like the fairies had been wandering around the campsite!
Such a simple activity, requiring almost no preparation and filled with wonder and imagination.

Please always supervise your infant/child at play. Please stay within arms reach and never leave infants/children unattended. You know you're infant/child best, use your own judgement-considering your infant/child's temperament, habits, behaviour and development before you play with a new play medium.
