Making Letters with Tools

Recently Bubbles has been showing an increasing interest in writing so what I'm about to share with you should have been no suprise-but it was!

Whilst we were gardening this weekend Bubbles took an interest in some of Numnut's tools-especially his socket wrench (at least I think that's what it's called!). Whilst she was playing with the wrench and it's sockets (???) she very excitedly discovered that she had made an L!
L made from wrench sockets

This led to her wanting to make more letters-we made a V, an E, a U and an A before she requested help in making her special letter B. We tried a few different ways but Bubbles was unhappy with all the results so we talked about how we needed something we could bend or something curved to make the bumps in the B. After some thought Bubbles excitedly grabbed a few pieces of grass (during which time Squiggles took ownership of the sockets) and we soon had a special B made with tools and nature.

Meanwhile, Squiggles had obviously been observing us in her own quiet way and seeing Bubbles abondon the sockets to go in search of some grass, she took ownership of them and began manipulating them in the same fashion she'd just seen her big sister doing. It scares me to think how quickly she's growing up!
Has your little one surprised you this week? I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

Please always supervise your infant/child at play.  Please stay within arms reach and never leave infants/children unattended.  You know you're infant/child best, use your own judgement-considering your infant/child's temperament, habits, behaviour and development before you play with a new play medium.
